Marbled Hands Untouched

I created this for the 'Life Lines' zine with Eggbox publishing. It's ink, bleach, and pastel on a marbled background.

'Life Lines' as the zine's theme can mean a lot: life lines as one's help source, life lines on one's palm. During these unprecedented times where 'Wash Your Hands' rings loud and proud, working with Eggbox to create lockdown work was a fun and exciting project to capture this strange moment in time.

I made this cover work in response to nationwide lockdown. The marble background gives an impression of germs contorting on the page (something most definitely to be avoided... Wash Your Hands!). The palms on top reaching to touch one another are a reaction to the rules against contact. A human necessity that we have been stripped of. That's why creating, engaging, communicating in any other way is so important and why zine's like 'Life Lines' are so important. Using bleach is completely ironic, emphasisng the necessity to completely clean everything. And the isolation of colours in each hand engages with the isolation that we all feel in relation to one another.

One take away from all of this is the importance of creating. It's a form of escapism and a form of expression. But, above this, the real takeaway is WASH YOUR HANDS!!!
