Feminist Collage
I created this collage last year in my mixed media class. We were given the prompt that the piece had to retain some sort of politcial meaning. I went to the news. Brett Kavanaugh ran through the headlines.
I made a series of collages depicting the trials. My reading was that women under scrutiny are far more likely to be thoroughly interrogated about the truth of their voice than that of men.
This feminist collage tries to capture the strength in womanhood. The pink and red hues, the female form, the strength in femininity all ring true in the strong female figure. The black and white statues are placed around the female figure and have multiple readings. First, a reading that women exist within a male gaze. Secondly, that there is female power in regaining control over how men scrutinise and judge us..
The face in the collage says it all. She is strong and unforgiving!
